Over the years I've bot coins from several different dealers. I've never been pleased with the "value" of what I have been sold. My experience with used car dealers has been better than my experience with coin dealers. Is this the universal? When you buy or sell, do you use auctions like Ebay? How do you feel about local auctions?
I use ebay regularly and have gotten some real bargains there. It sounds like your a impulse buyer, and should probably take the time to really look around and do your homework before bidding.Knowledge is indeed power, and especially in numismatics. The more you learn, the more good deals you'll be able to find. 8) I recommend joining some club that has your interests, whatever they are. My group covers errors, varieties, US coins, and world coins, all in separate forums. Maybe you'll find something there that would interest you.Check out our index page here... http://groups.msn.com/WorldCoinCollecting/links.msnw
no,there are too many bad certification services out there. The only protection is educating yourself. In the mean time, stick to the major grading services like PCGS,ANACS,and NGC. This should make your coin buying less of a risk.It still won't replace knowledge. ~ Jim
