Mexico stopped recognizing those a long time ago, I'll say point yourself to Wikipedia on that, and that's not a doubled die.

Ok thanks. I'll check there too. If its not DD what is it. I have several of the same years and only two have the doubling on the reverse letters. Others of the same year are different.

Face value that coin is worth just under 3 cents.
1000-1 devaluation on the pre 1993 coins/ currency.
1 peso currently worth 5.6 US cents.
I see some doubling on the reverse lettering, but it may not be a DDR.
The doubling could be from a worn die, or, MD. MD= mechanical doubling, or machine doubling, or ejection doubling.

It's worth a few dollars due to the doubling. It looks like mechanical doubling rather than DD, but plenty of people will still buy otherwise worthless coins for a few bucks because of it.

Unlike the rude fellow that commented above me, I don't believe any recognizable coins to be trash :)

Catawki has a VF 1989 500 peso at .25 Euro cents. .80 Euro in XF.
The condition is not too bad, there are scratches on both sides and it appears a big chunk is missing on the reverse.
NGC world coins has it as .80 US cents in XF.

While there might be people who want it, Mexican coins are notorious for mint errors and in general foreign coin collectors are a lot less interested in such things.

Sometimes they turn out that way. I wouldn't worry about it too much.
