Went into Walgreen today and when I went to pay, there was about 13 Wisconsin quarters in the draw, 12 of them were double ear lobes, 6 of them will be new DDO, and the rest are DDO-001 . But wait, there was about 20 Philly West Virginia quarters too, thoses are all known double ear lobes, DDO-001 & 002 . None for the one I'm posting, this will be a new double ear lobe, DDO-001 is much smaller then this one . The reverse looks like, wexler DDR-006 too . Heres the link to wexler site http://doubleddie.com/190932.html
DDR maybe. The ear isn't doubled. It's either machine damage or a hit. The lobe is not thick enough if you take away the "doubling". I still haven't found one of those DDRs. Cool find!
I'm not talking about the flatness. I'm talking about the overall size of the lobe. If you look at that Wisconsin quarter from Wexler's, the width in a north/south direction is normal. Then there's an extra ear below. Then look at your image. The size of the ear lobe is not even close to normal. It's way thinner. That's because the bottom of the lobe was smashed flat.
Nice find Rick very close to the other ddo. But I'm thinking more so MD. I maybe wrong as these are not in my wheelhouse as much as other varieties . I do better with type and older coins than modern strikes. They interest me but not up to date as you and Jay.
I was working on the West Virginia ones and thought I take another image but this time I would turn the coin like wexler, facing east to west with Washington image, instead of north to south like the first two . Here it is ..
All theses coins look like they were struck yesterday and their 11 years old now, they have amazing luster ...
Well I'm sure like myself back in the day when I came home from work put all my state quarters in a can. It held $30. When it was full I had a huge jug would dump it in. Then came the day the wife said she was tired of moving said jug to clean so off to the bank I went....some $1000 later in the coin counter. Paddy was in high cotton and a lot of unc. Quarters where put back into service. Thus people hoarded these and I'm sure still do somewhat.
