I signed up for an NGC membership last November when they had a special $99 rate (for $150 in grading credits). It took some time but this last Friday I finally sent in 6 of my world moderns. The expected turnaround time is 15 business day (much lower than it has been in prior years) so hopefully this one comes back in that timeframe. If anyone wants to follow along in the process, feel free to guess when the coins are graded, how many 70s there might be, and how happy or sad ddddd will be when the results come in.
To add some photos, here is one coin that was sent in: the 2024 version of Austria's long running niobium series. (photo and link from coin world) https://www.coinworld.com/news/world-coins/austria-s-annual-niobium-issue-celebrates-soil
Austria has always had very cool Coins. Old and new alike they are all very regal looking. Good luck and keep us posted.
It was an all "bimetallic" sub. There is an Isle of Man Four Elements/Planet Earth bimetallic coin (as linked below): https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces44489.html A Kazakhstan 30 years of the Tenge: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces387099.html And three Luxembourg coins (two castles and a cat...and that's not the name of my band ).
I like the red toning. It's actually crimson toning, I think. And the gold toning. Or is that brown toning?
The coin features soil, so it appears to be a mixture of the colors you mentioned. Also, “anodic oxidation” process is what creates the color and sometimes there are slight variations from coin to coin (I have two of the 2015 and the shades are slightly different).
As an update, the coins were mailed July 26th and by July 31st I had an email acknowledging that NGC received them (this is quicker than the last few experiences I had in 2022).
Quick update: as of today, 8/27/24, the status is still "scheduled for grading" on the website. By my count, we are at 19 business days after the 7/31/24 received date. When I sent these in it was estimated at 15 and as of today the estimate is up to 19. The week of the ANA show might also not count (PCGS does not count those days; not sure about NGC). So we might still be below the estimate. So for now I continue to wait to get the grades. It's been longer in the past, so nothing new here. Hopefully there are 70s in this order!
I hope they get to your submission soon. My last economy world submission took...82 business days, that's not counting weekends, holidays, or shipping time. Was an almost 5 months ordeal.
I submitted coins for grading on 16th July at the FUN show in Orlando. There were 25 coins on world standard, one shipwreck and 8 economy US coins. Last week the bulk of my items with the exception of the shipwreck were showing as graded and being encapsulated but on Monday they are now showing "scheduled for grading". I have queried it and await a response but has anyone else experienced such a reversal of status? I am happy to wait 50 days or whatever lead time is advertised but it doesn't sit with my idea of customer service when suddenly a flow path is reversed without any explanation. This is my first experience of grading and was an experiment for me to check my grading skills. I may just try the folks in Tampa next time as I am no investor and it is the coin not the plastic that motivates me and time is a commodity I am running out of at my stage of life. I hope I fare better than you @Joshua Lemons ! I'll watch your thread with interest @ddddd
It is common for the statuses to change like yours, especially when they are finishing things, so hopefully that means yours is almost done!
Economy world is still one of the slowest tiers while modern world is much faster. Below is a screenshot from NGC as of today, 8/28/24, of the estimated times (78 vs 19). I'm guessing the modern world goes to the beginner graders while economy world takes more experienced graders (who they must have less of). Still that is quite slow (and many times, it takes even longer than the estimate).
Lately I have not checked my status as often to notice all the changes (I check early in August and again yesterday). So mine could have changed statuses as well without me noticing. Why this happens could be for a few reasons: 1) Just a glitch in the system...2) Someone entering the wrong update (then catching and fixing it)....3) It could even be the normal operation as @Joshua Lemons mentioned (if so, they would be better off fixing it to have a different status like "finalizing")....4) they noticed something wrong and are sending the coins back for grading (seems unlikely this is it but there is a small chance)
Interestingly enough, it's the tier I have used the most since the majority of my NGC subs have been modern world coins (21st century) for the various sets I have going (niobium, tantalum, "stans").
