Dates on "dateless" Draped Bust and Classic Head Large Cents

It is fun to figure out if there are dates on advertised dateless cull coins. I recently picked up a 12 large cent cull lot with looks like 5 classic head and draped bust large cents. I am thinking these coins are 1811 and 1802. Would you agree?

12 for $24. 3 classic heads one of which is barely seen, 2 draped busts, and 7 matron heads.

You did well for type coins at $2.00 each. Even though I don't advocate cleaning any coins, at this price it might be worth the effort and have some fun with some inexpensive coins.

I only clean when necessary like when people wrap coins in scotch tape. I see no reason to clean any and the one that has verdigris isn't worth the expense. This low ball classic head cracks me up. I was like, what is this?

 

Um, a blank? Someone's pocket piece for 200 years?

 

If you hold it to the light, you can see the faint outline of a classic head and the back as well.

 

I was just kidding about the blank planchet. Actually, if it was a true large cent blank planchet, it would be worth a lot of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

On a more serious note, I don't think it's 1834. I see 1831.

 

You may be right. I wasn't sure, it looked like a one but was thinking the shape was more like a 4.

 

Looks like it could be an 1811, if so it is S-287

 

Thanks Conder101, yes it looks like 1811 in hand since the ending 1 is noticeable and think I see the one before it.

 

How about this one? 1835?



Or this one? 1837?
