hey guys, i was just wondering how many of you have a lot of dateless nickels around. I have noticed that a lot of people keep them in their collections. Do those date recovering solutions work on restoring the dates? thanks, chevy
I buy Buff's whenever I get a chance, have 3 acid dated ones. Bought them out of curiousity, they're ugly, but you can see a date, supposedly that was worn away. I would not buy them again, not even for a 3 leg, but what nut would put acid on a 3 leg?
Dateless buffalo nickels are useful to some collectors as place holders in the book - those that cannot afford a three leg may put a dateless in its place until such time as they can purchase the key. The dateless buffalo nickels sell for about .20 each and most dealers will have rolls for sale if you ask - we all end up with them!
I bought them at the yard sale for 25 cents each.....and I had one yesterday...sold $70 worth of coins (getting ready for my move to MS) But it was only like, 6 coins. Hope he or I didn't get ripped off.
I've spent about a roll of them over the past several weeks. Most people don't even notice, but I enjoy the reactions of people who do, some get really confused.
When I was 12 years old, I bought a bottle of Nic-a-Date (acid). I "recovered" a 1914-D that I still have, and it is still ugly. The bottle of Nic-a-Date leaked onto my stamp album and ruined it and quite a few stamps.
