My daughter is wanting to make some gifts for graduating seniors at her school. She wants to use 2023 cents, put a heart around the date and a grad cap on Lincoln. What size punch would she use for this...

Is there a punch for the mortarboard cap? It might be easier to just put the heart in the field instead of around the date. Maybe right above or below the date- you wouldn't need as much precision.

I have no idea what to use or how to do it but I think it’s a great idea. Best wishes to her.

Wow @Kentucky I wish her the best.

I'm getting old, my first great grandson is graduating HS this year.

I see several heart-shaped punches on Amazon. A rough measurement tells me the date on a zincoln is about 5 mm wide. That's all I got :)

I don’t know if this helps or not. Back when I was doing a lot of woodworking, I would recess a cent somewhere hidden on the piece that I had built to date it and a 3/4” Forstner bit made for a nice snug fitting cent…… And one more thought. I used to make my own punches out of copper pipe. Cut a short piece and file the edge to make it sharp. I bet you could make yourself a nice punch cheaply if you had a piece of 3/4” copper pipe laying around.

Someone in 100 years from now is going to find it, come on CoinTalk and say, "Has anyone seen one of these errors, and what's it worth?"
