I was going though the Dansco today and wow I forgot I had some nice varieties in the set. It's a unc. Album set that I put together years ago. And tucked away. Here's the 49 S a RPM 001 S/S west. Post any Franklin's that you care to share.
Really like Franklin's and can't resist putting sets together when I can still find them for 10-15 bucks each. This is recently completed set number 3.
I have a complete set of buisness strikes and a complete set of proofs. I don't have Dansco's for either but do have Capital set holders for both. To put them in the Capital holders, I will need to crack some out of TPG plastic. I didn't use the TPG holder as any part of the reason to aquire the coins so I am not attached to them, though finding the early proofs were impossible without TPG holders. I am still weighing my benefits of either choice.
The Franklin problem... Yes they can be a problem collection that's why I went down this road... I only needed the 50 & 51 proofs to complete the set of proofs. I had some better than average proofs plus the 57 type l & ll. Now years ago Capital plastics put out a holder for a short set of Franklin proof half dollars. Eliminating the 50 ,51,52,&53 no mention of the type ll 57. Just a holder from 1954-1963. I decided that aquiring the 50 &51 would be a wasteful money. And that since My birth year was 54 my wifes 55...that would be my short set of proofs Franklins, and I sold the 52,53,and 57 type ll for enought to put the proceeds into another coin that was needed for another part of the collection. * Reason why.... Years ago I worked coin shows, a man came in with a beatiful set in a black Capital plastics holder. Full unc set... he walked the show in hopes to sell it.... no takers...none .....no offers.....just thanks I don't need it for my inventory. He came back to me at the door...asking what was wrong with his set 20 dealers....no offers even. Truth be told they didn't want them ....unless way below spot...and didn't want to offer such a low bid for a nice set. Offend the owner by doing so... So yes I like Franklins but not enough to get burried in them. The short set proofs serves me fine. My nice unc. Dansco Franklins are perfect to fill my needs. But yes It was a good move to free up money that was used on another series that growth potential would be better.
