I am thinking of changing my Booked coins from the coinmaster albums and switching over to Dansco.. any expierences out here on the Dansco? I remember years ago the coinmaster albums had to have all new pages etc put in them because of the PVC issue. What a pain that was. Also, does Dansco make albums for Canadian coins? Thank you in advance for all the wisdom that is about to be bestowed upon me! :hail:
Jim, Whatever you do, stay away from any Coin Albums that contain any leather! I recently purchased some nice Morgan Silver Dollars that had been housed in one of the nice leather albums. The album developed mold on the inside and the mold severely damaged many of the Morgans inside and the damage is totally irreversible. Also, check your PM messages as I found some more old Canadian coins and will send you a PM about them. Frank
Hi, I'm new here and don't know how to post my own thread. I was wondering if Dansco albums are completely safe to use to store coins. I have noticed that in some of my coin slots the leather has started to reside where the coins should be held. I was wondering if this could be damaging to the coins, or if dansco actually created something that wouldn't be damaging to the coin when they made these coin books? I would really appreciate any feedback because I don't want to damage my coins. Thanks
Almost any Album is safe to some degree. So much depends on where you keep your albums and not the album. Even any of Leather. Leather is treated so as to keep it softer longer and this chemical slowly leaks out and will attack some Copper type coinage. Eventully there is no more of anything to leak out and the leather becomes more brittle and safe. Most Dansco and Whitman Ablums are not Leather and are completely safe but again it depends on the location you store them. If, for example, you keep all those albums in a basement of about 50% or more humidity, eventually the coins will be effected since no album is air tight. As to PVC, same thing. Common misunderstanding about that product. Go to your neighborhood store that carries piping supplies. Note that the greatest majority of that is PVC and is used for the water supply in your homes. Are you insides turning green? Many people put the albums in a safe in thier basements. Nice except when you slam the door of the safe you lock in that humidity unless you have the safe loaded with humidity gel packs. As to Dansco Albums. They are becoming the largest sellers in my area where Whitman used to reign. Not sure why but I like Whitman Albums but that is due to having over 100 of them. Not due to thier superiority.
Wonder why a 2 year old thread has been brought back to life.. I have long ago switched over to Dansco. All the coins that were in the Coinmaster albums were pretty much junked because of PVC damage over the years.
