I got these today. They supposedly are trial coins made in 2002 to see what a Danish euro would look like. It kind of sounds like it was just a fantasy coin. They are pretty if nothing else. There were maybe five or six other denominations that I got outbid on. 2002 denmark 1 euro.jpg Scan2.jpg Scan31.jpg Anyone know more about these? What do you think?

Not coins, of course ;) but designed and issued by some British (!) company. Here are more of those patterns, "from" all kinds of places. http://ret001qm.eresmas.net/eu-ingle.htm Some are at least nicely designed, others ... ah well.

Even these days some dealers try and make money fast by selling sets with "test" or "pattern" pieces, shortly before the actual euro coin sets are issued. We just had the same thing with Latvia ...

The fantasy pieces depict E and not € (Euro). Thanks for posting them.

An actual euro coin would have the word EURO and a map on the reverse, and properly oriented stars on the obverse. But had a third party manufacturer such as the INA used the € sign or the word "euro", they would have been in trouble. ;)

Thanks for the info. I also noticed it was different from the euro symbol.
