Just received this envelope in the mail from an eBay seller in Canada:

I just about plotzed when I saw that nice, big tear on the edge- even if it was accidental and not from a thief, coins could easily fall out and get lost. Fortunately, the seller had the coins inside a sealed cardboard inner container, so all the coins were intact and undamaged. I had a similar situation with a Frank Robinson shipment back in 2017:

In that case, too, the coins were kept safe by the inner cardboard. So, those of you who sell coins that are sent through the mail, please take this as a warning to always use thorough packaging. Has anyone else had similar damage to a coin shipment? Did you receive the coins intact?

Pity to run the risk of damage in order to save a few bucks in postage.....you were lucky, my friend.

I use a 000 bubble mailer, stick on a priority label and seal all that with clear tape. Inside I use index cards or self sealing cardboard around the contents with both addresses printed on the outside just in case it does get separated from the mailer.
I can't stand the eBay tracking system. Folks think they can stick a 2x2 loose in a regular envelope, put that .60 label on it and it'll get there safe and sound.

That type of year is caused by letter processing machinery. Someone mailed something in an envelope and when it’s hit that first turn it shoots out and jams the machine. Usually the 200 or so letters behind it get destroyed.
Glad your coins were packed well.
