Just hate to see this so thought I would share the pain. Someone wore this as a pinned piece of jewelry. Not a high price piece, but still...
About ten years ago I purchased an otherwise quite attractive, EF-ish 1790-something US dollar from a seller in England. I paid only $200 or so for the coin, but unfortunately it had long ago been made into a pin with the side of Ms. Liberty defaced and the eagle showing.
Not high priced in that condition, comparably speaking anyway. Even so that is a downright scarce coin with estimates of maybe 100 total still existing in any grade or condition. Higher grade examples, and I think the highest known is a 62, have approached $40,000. This one I would expect would go for somewhere around $1500, depending on the buyer of course.
I thought that might have been what you were referring too but I never question your knowledge of gold coins! That said, does this still demand more than melt?
