So...picked up a "junk" lot at auction...lots of silver, and some wheaties...and almost as a bonus, 4 rough proof sets in cello...some 62's and a 63...No pics because I am at work, but will try to get some later...they appear to have been exposed to moisture or something. Some green on the halves and the seals separating some of the coins are shot (found a dime rubbing on top of the half in one set)... Question is...should I cut them all out, or try to sell them as is? I basically paid pennies for them. Never dealt with damaged proof sets, advice would be great, thanks!
There's no point in keeping them in the cello damaged. Break them out and possibly give them a dip to clean up and re-sell as cleaned. Leaving them in the cello as is will turn people away from a possible sale. IMHO.
Acetone bath for the silver. Cut 'em up and try to sell them individually in flips......or, if you're like me.......store 'em in flips for a rainy day.
