I've been searching rolls here and there for several months, I thought I'd scored my first find. 1999 DDO nickel. I have 20/10 vision at last check, and can see a lot of detail unaided. Mint mark "P" had doubling. Then I went and put it under the magnifier. Yep. Machine defect, machine doubling, ejection error, or what ever label you folks accept. Obvious "flat, shelf like appearance". So remembering the 1950's t.v. show rule... %$#^#&%$#%!!! My point is, I thought I'd post and let the seasoned folks know that a newb did his research on this site, had poured over other articles, and knew what I had found before posting the "Did I score?" thread. So... my finds while CRHing - 0 In the wild - 1 wheat, and 1 war nickel. Both in change at the QT. Different visits. Been at it for 6 months now.
And if you enjoy seeking out the answers, the 'why's" and most importantly the 'how the heck did that happen'-then you are at the right site and one day, just one coin at a time you will find it; a ddo, cud or what ever your coin searching is after--keep looking and good luck
