I was going through my quarters in preparation for a re-organization, and noticed that the coin that I had marked as a 1952 D/D RPM-001 actually looks more like a D/S OMM. I did some overlays and the "S" matches up well with the Trumpet-tail "S" mintmark. Note that the old style Trumpet-tail was used on a minority of the 1952 mintage (at least in my experience). The putative "S" does not match up well with the new "S" introduced in 1952. Here are some pictures:

Note the bulge at the right end of the under mintmark. It matches well with the expansion into the serif on the Trumpet-tail "S". So I traced the ridge of the Trumpet-tail...

and overlaid it on the RPM.

The overlay matches up pretty well.

    Any thoughts?

Have you done an actual photo overlay?

Yeah. It looks good, but when I make the top photo clear enough to see the details of one underneath, its difficult to see. That's why I did the tracing. I thought I would put it out there for more experienced people to see.
