I have a 9 piastres coin from Cyprus. It dates from 1901 and is in very good condition. I'd love to know howmuch its worth!

    Thanks

    Cyprus.

Ben Kelso, that is actually a very difficult coin to find in any grade. In fact, any Cypriot coin issued prior to 1934 is extremely difficult to find.Cyprus is actually one of the most difficult of all British Commonwealth countries to attempt collecting by date. The 9 Piastres was also known as a Shilling, because the Cypriot Pound system between 1879 & 1949 was a combination of both the Ottoman currency system & the British currency system. The Cypriot Pound was tied 1:1 with the Pound Sterling.

    9 Piastres = 1 Shilling (written as '1/-').

    18 Piastres = 2/-.

    45 Piastres = 5/- (or a Crown).

    180 Piastres = 1 Pound.

In 1955,the Cypriot Pound was decimalised into 1,000 Mils.In 1983,the Cypriot Pound was decimalised again,
this time into 100 Cents = 1 Pound, just like it is in Malta.

    Aidan.
