In the land of cyber-numismatics the opinions and thoughts of the participating forum members can get jumbled around, and when they are finally interpreted as evidenced in other threads disagreements over the silliest things can develop. Chuckle, the information one can pick-up here is like a full pitcher of beer and many times our mind is only shot-glass sized. Who is right? Why am I always wrong? That's not true. What a know-it-all. No way. etc... These are thoughts and maybe even experiences many of us here have dealt with before. Make no doubt about it, there are some independent COIN PEOPLE present here. Now I present you with just two individual personality traits which are infallibly present in this knowledge rich environment. #1. Some members are more learned than others. #2 Some members know more than you think. They both probably know just about the same as each other and their opinions are certainly equally valuable but you'll usually get (#1's) information and opinions before (#2's) is pried out of them. Now that doesn't make it any more pertinent or relative to the discussion it just makes it more readily available. Remember, the information provided by #2 is just as important and worthy as the information provided by #1. It's just not as available. Where do you fall in? Well that is the $64,000 question isn't it? The key I've found which works for me is to do your own DD on a topic and then compare the opinions of others to the facts you've discovered. I guess my mind is kind of like a coin melting pot. I take the copper of #1 and the tin of #2 and come up with something altogether different BRONZE. Where do you fit in??? Take Care Ben
I guess I'm the "1" in your examples. Which, is wierd, because in person I'm a die-dard "2" and am not vocal at all. I guess the way I see it, if I'm going to be a part of a forum that is both educational and meaningful to me personally, I might as well participate as best as I can, thus my willingness to be vocal and opinionated. If I don't ask, I can't learn. Guy~
As I have posted a hundred times before - the truly wise man knows how much there is that he has yet to learn.
i don't think i fit in. that's why i fit in as my cycling coach used to tell me... don't think so much, just pedal. -steve
Hi Ben howare ya?? Hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...where I would fit in?? Good question? Over the years I have learned alot, but it is in a focused area and not very broad! The learning experience is different for everyone. The digital age has all of us looking at different images based on the optical quality of thousands of different monitors. The surest and tried and way is by holding the coin or note in hand! I do know for a fact that there are many knowledgable folks on this site that have a wealth of experience. When I encounter someting I do not understand or have little knowledge on, I seek out the advice of those who are professionals. I am but an Former Marine(notice I said Former and not Ex hahah) who loves certain coins and notes and by no means a professional grader of any sorts. Great thread and interesting comment from all who replied. Regards, RickieB
