Curious?

    While searching this horde of coins for commonly known DDRs and DDOs on lincoln cents i stumbled across the first coin pictured, it looks as if there is an extra blob of metal on the E(second pic is regular same year lincoln). I was just curious how this happens and how often?

    The first picture looks like a damaged die possibly, the second picture looks like gas bubbles and is fairly common on post 1982 cents once they went to a zinc cent that was copper coated. just my opinion.
