just the type of coin it is. I just came across this and I'm not sure if it is anything more than a cleaned/corroded coin in general. I believe it is bronze and the patina is close. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
It's harshly cleaned for one thing. It looks like the end result of a lot of those coins that you buy as "uncleaned ancients" - namely culls. That one looks like it was chemically stripped, which would explain the severe pitting. I can't even make out the legends to attribute it, but somebody more experienced may be able to.
I believe the coin is Claudius II but the reverse escapes me for the moment. There are many thousands of coins of Claudius II on the market with a price range from under a dollar to about $100 depending on several factors including condition. This one strikes me as a $1 coin at best. Ancient coins are sometimes found in pots or groups protected from corrosion for the last couple millennia. Others were dropped in a field somewhere where chemical fertilizers and natural elements had their way until someone found them with a metal detector and made things worse with heavy handed cleaning. This has all the signs of this last group.
