The serif of the crossbar looks like it took a small hit which mashed it slightly. I guess to some, it might appear to be part of an underlying 6, but it's not. Chris
If that is the bottom portion of the 6 to the right of the bottom of the 7 now I realise why they state it is "barely visible".
You might be right, Matt. The previous photos don't show it as well. A good close-up and better light from a good angle might show it even better. Chris
Wouldn't a 7/6 need to show evidence of the 6? I see absolutely no traces of the 6 in these super enlarged microscope photos. Even if other die marker match, there is no 6 visible. In the Bust Half series (which I am far more familiar with) there are numerous overdates. However, on later dies states the overdate is sometimes not visible (due to die wear). Even though the die is clearly identifiable (due to the handpunched digits and identifiable positions of these elements), the overdate does not garner a premium unless it is visible.
