I am new to this site as well as coin collecting. I started some sets for my children and have run across a strange 2000 Nickle. I thought at first that someone had altered the coin, but now that I have looked closer it doesn't appear to be the case. Here are the observations: The front right side word of "LIBERTY 2000" are sitting on the extreme edge of the coin. The edge of the coin is raised higher on the back and the edge wording of "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and 'UNITED STATE OF AMERICA" are actually on the edge of the coin going into the raised area. Does anyone know if this might be worth taking to someone?? I really don't know anything about coin values. I thought it would be an interesting hobby to do with my children. Thanks for any thoughts you might have. Jody
Welcome to the forum By the sounds of it, you have a nickel that was struck "off center", but its difficult to tell without seeing the coin. Its it possible for you to take a picture and post it to the forum? At any rate, off center coins, where the lettering is still on the coin, are not worth much, but its still a fun find. Its how I started my journey of error coin collecting There are other more knowledgeable collectors in this forum, and they will have more to add. But definitely post a digital picture or scan of the coin if you can. Again, Welcome
