Wow, a thousand more over the course of a week? Looks like the drop in gold prices has drawn in a few more buyers.
At the rate the gold Kennedy half dollar sales are going, it will be lucky if the 75,000 mintage mark can be breached by the end of 2014. The initial popularity and frenzy over this coin has deflated tremendously. It does not bode well for the future possibilities of a set of three--gold Standing Liberty quarter, Mercury dime or Walking Liberty half dollar that are being batted about for 2016.
Just minting the walking liberty silver half. That is. Hopefully this set will have six types of condition. Namely proof, Matt proof , reverse proof. Uncirculated, burnished or satin finished uncirculated, enhanced uncirculated. Also some error coming out too. Sell some individual option too.
Product limit 75,000 units Current sales 72,696 units http://news.coinupdate.com/us-mint-...nniversary-kennedy-half-dollar-products-4884/ Did you acquire one of these beautiful coins ? Post a picture for us .
I live in Philadelphia and went to the Mint this morning to go into the gift shop. The Gold Kennedy is sitting there in a display case, and it's still on sale (at $1,165). Also the uncirculated 2-coin set and the 4-coin silver set.
This was a epic fail. I'm just glad I was able to return most of mine to the mint, but I did lose my share on the ones I kept ;(
But the first ones struck are long gone! The Mint isn't selling any more of those! There will never be more than 4000 or so coins eligible to have earned the coveted "First Strike" label. Don't confuse those highly collectible coins with the run-of-the-mill end-of-the-run coins that the Mint is currently trying to foist off on... ...no, I just don't have it in me to do the Mike Mezak thing for more than half a paragraph. I tried. Wonder if any of the TPGs will finally catch on and start issuing a special "Last Strike"/"End of the Line" slab label? Because you know a market would form for it...
Oops, I guess that means I better shuffle back to the Philly Mint right now and get in line for that one in their display case.
Of course, if the Mint worked like a NORMAL business, the 1st ones struck were on the bottom of the pallet and will be the LAST sold....
