I got this silver war nickel in change and noticed this on the rim. I'm not a error collector by any means & im sure its just PMD but I am curious as to how a dent within the edge could made the obverse edge raise like and hit the letters. The coin is a perfect circle too, no dent on that part of the edge I would think could cause the metal to be pushed. I tried to take the best pics I can but it's iphone photos.
From seeing the hit on the edge, I would think it was PMD. The 2nd pic really makes your coin look odd...
It does look like a ding but it's within the edge with the edge itself perfectly circular so I dunno why it would raise into the lettering and look like cud.
Someone might have hit it with a screwdriver and hammer. The metal has to go somewhere when it is hit. Up to the obverse is the path of least resistance. These coins also may have been softer since they had a different composition.
If thats the case then someone must have been bored :/ I didnt think it was a big deal but with coins ya never know.
Yeah some people do some stupid things to coins. If you hadn't posted a pic of the side, I would have thought it was a small cud.
