Hi CT folks, On the ancient coins section of Cointalk, and for a few years now, we fancy building lists of our most significant purchases of the year (see here the thread that summarizes them, and here my 2020 contribution, if you would like to) Everybody there seems to enjoy seeing others « best of the year » and showing off their own. I’m usually an ancient and medieval guy, reason why you don’t see me here that often. 2020 has been a bit different, for many reasons, not just the Covid situation. For once (that hasn’t happened in decades I guess), I’ve bought almost the same number of world coins (the term "world" isn't completely accurate though, as I merely buy french, british and US coins on a regular basis) than ancient/medieval. Then I thought it might be fun to have a thread showing the best, or more interesting ones. Anyway, without further ado, here’s my top 6 for 2020, in no particular order, other than the date of emission 6 – United Kingdom – George II, shilling – 1739 5 – France – Louis XVI, 1/5 ecu – 1784 4 – United Kingdom – George III, six pence – 1787 3 – USA – Draped bust large cent – 1802 (Sheldon #236). There's a thread here about that one, as I had to ask a few questions, due to my lack of knowledge about those 2 – France – 2nd republic, 2 francs – 1849 1– France – 3rd republic, 100 francs or – 1886 Hope you enjoy seeing them, as much as I will enjoy seeing yours Merry Christmas to all Q
Beautifull coins, Q! Nice to see you on this forum. I like you enjoy both Ancients and post 1200AD coins. You are "the master of Dombes coinage". That 1886-A AV 100 Francs is very nice. I like you went 50/50 on Ancients vs World coins. John
