found this dime in my change and thought it had candy or soda on in and tried to wash it, when it didnt come off I peeked at it with a magnafier and it looks like there are lavender/violet hexagon shaped crystals "in" the metal. any ideas??

heres some scans, I'll try to get pics, but not getting clear ones.

It's likely some type of Lepidolite* but I don't know of any that are an outgrowth of either silver or copper. Whatever they are, they are foreign to the chemistry of your dime and have to have come from outside contaminants.

*composed of compounds of Potassium, Lithium, Aluminum, Silican and Oxygen.

You know, I'm taking a Physio Psych lab this semester, and we use Microscopes.
I'm sure after lab I can put one under and take a close look at it :)

You do know that on TV , the crystals would absorb into your skin and you guys would turn into toads:yawn: or something. Maybe that is spock's verdigris :Dthat leaps from coin to coin. Does acetone affect it?

Hey when you are at the coin shop ask if they know anything about a Flagstaff coin show that once was at the Little America. If not, it must have been the altitude adjustment, but I swear I read it in the Daily Sun once.

Thats the reason why they don't allow poprocks at the mint anymore. Seriously though, I think thats awesome! Keepers for sure.

Maybe I'll be able to get a good pic during the day

Its slowly calming down lol. got jury duty outa the way :D

I was thinking I'd get super powers, or a rash. lol I did keep it away from my other coins. after I saw what it was i stopped tryen to clean it.

I'll ask them about any shows, past or upcoming

I have a page of coins it'll fit in nicely with. :D
