I'm thinking many of you might be interested to know some just received slabs. I cracked two ICG slabs - Roosevelt Dimes graded PF70UC - and sent them to PCGS. They came back today; one graded PF68C and the other PF68UC. In addition, I cracked an ANACS Lincoln graded MS66RB and sent it to NGC. It came back graded MS66R. All 3 were sent in as raw coins.
I would appreciate (and I'm sure many of you as well) hearing of other collectors' experience. I have wanted to try this for years and finally decided the time had come. It has always seemed to me that an objective unbiased organization (ANA?) should run a Consumer Reports style examination of all TPG's. It would really be invaluable to all collectors.

You found out what many already knew Don. That being that ICG commonly over-grades moderns.

As for the ANACS coin, was it in a new or an old ANACS holder ?

Not that I believe this is the norm, but I broke out my F-15 1914-D Lincoln certified by PCI and sent it to PCGS. It came back VF-20.

Yeah - and now that you have them in PCGS holders CAC will verify the grading of the graders. Which could have saved you crossover fee's if the coins were already in PCGS and NGC. Not making fun of CAC they do serve a purpose. And yes - my father has done this with about the same results. Usually he is crossing over PCI, or some other weird name TPG into PCGS or NGC slabs.

This all goes back to the old overused, but true saying: buy the coin, not the holder...or something like that.

I hear that alot!, Not that i always agree with it though many people
Think there experts at grading, I would much rather trust an expert
At a well known TPG (PCGS or PMG) then some one that thinks he knows
How to grade that,s why they get paid the big bucks:kewl:

But you do bring up a valid point:hail:
