Praise the Gods! I did it, I finally did it! I just purchased an Alexander III (Great) lifetime issue Drachm for well under $100. I apologize for being a bit excited but this is my first lifetime issue Drachm of the Divine Alexander. It looks like the coin has a bit of Lacquer on it (On the Lion)? I don't think that affects the coin it self but I would like your opinions on that. Here it is. Grade: VF Catalog: Price 1503, BMC -, M.907, SNG Cop. 893 Material: Silver Weight: 4.15 g Diameter: 13.90 mm Alexander III, (336-323 B.C.), Abydus mint, issued 328-323 B.C., obv. head of Herakles to right wearing lion skin with line border, rev. Zeus seated on throne to left, eagle in outstretched hand, figure of Hermes to left in left field, under throne monogram HH ligated, ALEXANDRO* to right. Here is one that sold on Vcoins a while back. https://www.vcoins.com/en/stores/an...ck_circa_3283_bc_vf_hermes/36063/Default.aspx Please post your lifetime and posthumous issues of Alexander the Great!
This is a decent, mid-grade drachm that I hope will fit your collection nicely. From the photo, I can't say what the stain is. Acetone might lessen it but leaving it alone is a safe answer.
Thank you Doug. I had been craving a lifetime issue Alexander for some time now. So when a dealer offered this coin I knew I had to get it.
very respectable drachm MM, i like the little mercury on the reverse as well. this coin is philip iii, but was also under 100 bucks...
I REALLY like your coin M.M. I haven't attributed my 'Greeks' yet, so I don't know if this is Alexander, or Philip.
