I have the 1992/3 Edition of Col. Criswell's Confederate Bond, and he describes his 1 to 11 rarity scale, He defines an 11 as a unique item, but offers no details on the other numbers on his scale. Does anyone have those details? I also have Professor Ball's catalog on CSA bonds, with his 1-8 detailed rarity scale. I want to be able to compare them.
I knew Grover Criswell for over 30 years. There's no point in "comparing" the two rarity scales. Ball knew 10 times as much as Criswell, who was nevertheless a nice fellow, but programmed ONLY to promote and sell, not to research. If Criswell happened to think of a statistic that goosed sales, it then became gospel, and shortly thereafter, a fact requiring no further discussion.
I was aware of Criswell's flamboyance, but run into people who still believe the world is flat....and Criswell is what they know. I collect/trade confederate bonds and currency.
I also attended Criswell's IRS-seizure auction in Jacksonville sometime during the 1990s, don't remember the year. He died of a broken heart in 1999.
