The VIRTVS EXERCIT series struck for Crispus has some rare shield decorations. The BEATA series has many types from the Trier mint; but only a few rare examples for the VIRTVS series. Yesterday I won another example with a wolf and twins. Crispus A.D. 320 17mm 2.6g CRISPVS NOB CAES; Laureate and cuirassed bust left, spear pointing forward, shield with wolf and twins on left arm. VIRTVS EXERCIT; Standard inscribed VOT/XX with captive seated on ground on either side. in ex. STR RIC VII Trier 260 Star on shield…slight double strike on obverse with a few issues including obverse legend ending with CAESS. Crispus A.D. 320 19x20mm 2.6g IVL CRISPVS NOB CAES; Laureate and cuirassed bust left, spear pointing forward, shield with ✶ on left arm. VIRTVS EXERCIT; Standard inscribed VOT/X with captive seated on ground on either side, in left field S, in right field F over HL. in ex.
