Just acquired. I now have seven different reverse types of denarii for this empress: Rome mint, AD 180-82 2.56 gm Obv: CRISPINA AVGVSTA, bare-headed and draped bust, r. Rev: VENVS, Venus standing l., holding apple and drawing drapery from l. shoulder. RIC 286a; BMCRE 44; Cohen 35; Sear 6002; MIR 19
Gorgeous example, Roman Collector ... congrats => hey, can we please see the other six?! Ummm, the only Crispina example I have is a humble ol' AE Dupondius ...
That's a super denarius @Roman Collector !!! Steve's cool bronze (dupondius) would make a great companion I have a more modest denarius (not particularly 'gorgeous' LOL) and a far more modest sestertius with the Salus reverse:
Nice coin! When it comes to coinage bearing portraits of Roman ladies, @Mat is your guy. He will probably be along soon and comment on your new purchase.
Nice coin, most common reverse of her. Even built a set of Denarii for her a few years ago. Still want a better "Juno" reverse but isn't high on my list.
Nicely played, studly => I like the female handshake (hmmm, I'm not sure I've seen an example of a chick-coin with the handshake reverse?)
Great selection. I've started to get interested in empresses. Well so far I've the severan julias (domna twice because she's amazing), both faustinas, a decent severina, one or two others. It's only a start but it makes me happy!
Nice Crispy Critters @Roman Collector ! I only have one of her... RI Crispina m Commodus 177 CE AR denarius 2.29g Juno stdg RIC-283
great portrait on your new coin RC! i still don't have one of her, on the list. she always seems to be depicted with a long neck hu?
