I have never CRH before and am thinking about doing it. Can someone inform me how much is one box of halves? And do only certain banks allow you to purchase boxes?
They're $500 face if I recall correctly. As for obtaining them, simply contact the bank and ask. Some can be willing and helpful, while others not so much.
Since half dollars don't circulate like smaller denominations, it is unlikely that your bank would have boxes of them on hand. You will probably have to order them. Usually, it takes a few days for them to arrive, and your bank can fill you in on the details. The problem you might encounter is that many banks don't want to take them back because it costs them a small fee to have them counted and wrapped, and some banks will pass that expense on to the customer. I used to have an account with a local credit union that had a coin machine and I had privileges to use it for free within certain limitations. You might want to check with a credit union in your area to see if they have similar services. Chris
Ditto what BooksB4Coins said. Also, some banks(my CU is one of them) have to order a minimum number of boxes from the armored car company before they(the armored car company) will deliver. At my bank the minimums are: 2 boxes cents 2 boxes nickels 4 boxes dimes 2 boxes quarters 2 boxes halves 2 boxes dollars
also, if you are just starting out, be sure to check out the FAQ at the top of the Coin Roll Hunting forum. Lots of really good information for starting out.
