Hey ho! I recently found a coin 1987 quarter dollar please have a look tell me what you think. I can clearly see some numbers under the word dollar when reading upside down. Apologies for bad quality of pics. It's difficult to capture it. I hope u can see what I see lol

Seems kinda counter intuitive to say "can clearly see" and "difficult to capture it" in the same paragraph ha. I'm sorry but it's very likely that its just post mint damage. I am un-aware of any mint error that would cause indentation of number on the rim. You'll definitely need more clear pictures before the professionals will be able to give you an answer.

I can see rim damage on all the rim surfaces, but I see no number.

All I see is that the two LL on DOLLAR upside down look like two number 77 o_O

Apologies luxunit. English is my 2nd language. I will try to take better pics. I meant I can see it clearly when I hold it in my hand. And yes paddy man. You can see on the first pic looks like number 7 and doesn't follow the L shape. Also coin is dark gray colour. Can someone explain to me more about it? Is it wrong metal error? Thanks a lot. Marta xx

    First, welcome to the neighborhood!

It is not unusual for coins that have been in circulation for 30 years to tone in different ways. Having a dark gray appearance is nothing out of the ordinary. At the same time, what you think you see in the shape of a "7" only means that you are trying too hard to find something that shouldn't be there. It's nothing new. I recall on another forum some years ago that someone swore up and down that he had a Lincoln cent with the Shroud of Turin on it. Once you learn more about the minting process, you will start to disregard such things.

You'd want to post images in "What's it Worth", but don't post all of your coins in one thread. It is better to post one or two coins at a time, both obverse and reverse.

You should have started a new thread all your own in "What's it Worth". That way you will be able to find it if you ever need to refer back to it. Also, your images are slightly out of focus. Do you have a tripod or copy stand to prevent "camera shake"? Finally, you need to resize your images before posting them. As you can see, they are too big.

It's all damage due to circulation wear and tear. No Mint Errors :yack:
