Okay, I (with dad) was walking through a kroger parking lot and spotted two shiny cents, then more, followed the trail to the back of the parking lot. Behind a car I see at least 1000 coins, mostly cents, mixed in with some nickels and MERCURY DIMES. Well, I spent 15 minutes picking coins up, too bad it wasn't cold or I would've got every single one. The total came to around 9 dollars face, but I found 3 mercuries, and maybe 30 wheat cents, and 2 war nickels. I have absolutely no idea why the coins were there though. Much better than the trip to the coin shop. :thumb: ;)

It is a good thing that you were with your dad! Never follow a trail of coins or anything else that might get your attention in such areas. I know a lot of Law Enforcement folks and through them, I know that this is a tactic used by those that can only be described here as bad people, to abduct a child. If your dad had not been with you, then it is hard to say what might have happened. Please remember to never follow a trail of coins, candy or other items in a Kroger's or other parking lot, in the woods or elsewhere.

    Hello,
I would seriously go one step further. I would report your find to the local police as it is indeed a tactic used by the unscrupulous. I can't believe how much of this goes on in the area I am in but it is on the news all the time. be a good citizen and report what you found and exactly where you found it. You might save someone from something horrible.

Ty for the advice... but, the lot backs up to the world't busiest walkalloverya. There were at least 200 people within 100 feet of me, so I wasn't too worried about a crime. It seems more like a careless or lazy person.

You may have felt that you were safe but in fact, if it were not for your dad, you could have been in real peril! Most children are abducted from parking lots, from Amusement Parks, from Public Parks, in Malls and in Stores, right in front of and in plain sight of hundreds and sometimes thousands of people! Some of these bad people are very brazen and risk getting caught to abduct a child or even a grown woman.

Please do as the others advised and either you or have your dad report this incident to the local Police. You might just save someone's life!

This sounds like an urban legend.

Can anyone cite an actual incident (news story) where kidnappers used a trail of coins to grab a kid?

willieboyd2 Even if its never been tryed, you would think kidnappers would try somthing like it.

Just like my dad always says: look down, you'll be rich!

But still, that coin trail may have been a trap and always keep a look out!
