If anyone is ever looking at coins on Craigslist watch out for the out of area scammers. Here is what one wrote: ************************************************** Hi, I am from Miami, Florida and we can make a deal is through eBay Direct Payment, in order to have a safe transaction for both of us. I wanted you to know this details before all. If this work for you just let me know your full name and address where the package must be shipped so we can proceed, free shipping. eBay will send you an invoice ASAP and they will let you know what you have to do. The eBay T&S Department will offer you 7 days to inspect it and if something will go wrong after this period, I will 100% refund you in 24 hours. In order to start the transaction please let me know your final decision. ************************************************************ They use pictures and wording off of Ebay and list the item for half what it sold for to get people to think it is a steal.
How do you know it is a scam? english might not be his 1st language. All I can see from that is that he is offering a payment method
This things screams "SCAM" loudly and clearly IMHO. This "payment method" isn't listed as an option by EBay. In all 500+ of my EBay transactions any invoice came from the seller. That's not a function of the Trust and Safety Department.
Believe it or not, Craigslist is far, far worse than Ebay for fraud. It's pretty much overrun by criminals now. In our area, we've had people get mugged at gunpoint by people they've tried to make deals with via Craigslist, and bad checks are rampant (do not under any circumstances accept a check from someone on Craigslist). Hard to believe it, but it seems that Craigslist attracts an even lower class of people than Ebay does. Be careful on any transaction, not just the ones where it looks like someone who doesn't speak English very well is involved.
Any site that will let promiscuous ladies post the services in code words and leave the coordinates is just a tad more sketchy then eBay. (Don't let my post fool you , I don't feel that there is anything wrong with the oldest profession in the book.)
i have two adds on craigslist right now. I talk to the person on the phone first and if they seem alright then i'll meet. I never meet at my house or alone and only cash.I never go unprotected either (if you know what I mean). I made one deal on craigslist before and everything went good. My methods in doing this keeps everything going smoothly. IMHO
Thanks. I'll have to let my buddy know. I post superduty ford parts on CL all the time for his business and put in his cell phone #. He gives them his addy. and they meet there.
Thanks for the advice in all of the above posts. I am wondering, is most of the danger on craigslist in the items for sale? Other than physical violence in person, is there something else I should be worried about if I only accept cash for my junk?
That scam is in every section on Craigslist. They always say I'm in the Army or I travel for work. The best thing about Craigslist is that you get to make the transaction in person. Some people like to meet in public, well I like to go to there home, that way I know where to find them if I need to.
I haven't really heard of Craigslist except for hearing from the media that it is the place to go to find services of ill repute. So I guess it would be fitting that there are coin scammers too there.
