I felt this was a worthy candidate for such a momentous occasion. I felt that the NGC Good Details slab it was trapped in made it worth less than it would be raw. Pictures were taken with an iPad. What do you think?
I'm generically opposed to entombing of coins. But I agree the details grade is justified. It is a nice coin, but I suspect it would only receive an EAC of AG3 and possibly a net down to FR-2. It's hard to tell whether or how much they would discount for the rim dings. Older graders deducted more and modern graders less. But that is better than many problem BS1 coins that seem to find a floor at AG in the market. That said, I'd add it to my collection any day. Have you already attributed it?
I showed it to an EAC expert (Bill Jones) and he said the net grade is G-06 because the smoothness of the fields bumps of the grade. My grade is VG-10 / AG-3. I'm not good with net grades, so I will leave it at that. Attribution is S-28.
I'll confirm the S-28. Perhaps this is a case of whether you concentrate on the obverse or reverse for grading. Perhaps a G6/Fr2? Anyway, nice coin and a good price, whatever grade you call it.
