Hmmm. This morning, I was informed by James Wiles that the photographs for the 1970-D DDR Washington Quarter listed as DDR-001 FS-801 in the CPG are actually photographs of DDR-004! Three different scenario's now exist. 1. The submitters of the FS-801 to the CPG Editors intended for DDR-001 to be the coin for the book and as such sent the correct "textual" information BUT sent the wrong photographs. OR 2. The submitters of the FS-801 to the CPG Editors intended for DDR-004 to be the coin for the book and as such sent the correct "photographs" BUT sent the wrong "textual" information. OR 3. All the corrrect information was sent but the CPG editors (before Ken Potter mind you) but just got it wrong. At any rate, since 2006 when the VOL II 4th edition was released, I have been looking for and submitting the "wrong" coin. Since PCGS uses the CPG as their reference guide, is it safe to assume that they've been incorrectly attributing 1970-D CONECA DDR-004 coins as FS-801 (listed as CONECA DDR-001) since then? For those that are about to reply that the 1970-D Washington FS-801 is moving to the appendixes next year, don't bother. There's no indication of exactly when the 6th Edition of VOL II will be released so, as it sits, the FS-801 will still be searched for by enthusiasts.
