Here are a couple world notes from my, um, vast collection, I thought I'd proudly display. Anyway...I was wondering...on the 1 Pound note, how would one date that? There's no date or year on the thing. On the 10 Kroner note, of course, that one's quite rare. As you may know, the government confiscated and burned these later that year, when they surprisingly discovered Hans Christian Andersen wasn't of pure Danish stock. And, you'll notice, this one doesn't have that fire damage, like the few others that also survived. I don't know if they know about that in Wikipedia, yet. But, my dealer friend, Guido (that's, GRS, Guido's Rare Stuff) assures me it should get a rather good premium over face, in this condition. All kidding aside...what would a note like this 10 Kroner go for these days? 10 Kroners, right? Anybody? Thanks!
I really like to color on the 1 pound note!! And the reverse..that's neat! Thanks for sharing these with us!! RickieB
for the pound note look-up, i would just look through my Pick catalog, and find the note if its listed. It may not be dated, but through the sig combo, you should be able to narrow the time period of printing down. Very cool notes... i do love the vingettes on world notes! very nice!
Looked it up... that one pound note with the Sir Isaac Newton reverse was printed from 1978 to 1982. To get more specific than that, you'd have to see when the chief cashier whose signature on it was in office. Looked that up too... David Somerset was the Chief Cashier of the Bank of England from 1980 to 1988. Therefore that note has to have been printed some time from 1980 to 1982 (from the time David Somerset took office to the time the banknote was discontinued). The serial number may allow you to narrow the date even further... not sure if the Bank of England had some date specific process for its serials or not... but at least you have it narrowed to 1980-1982.
Excellent! That's close enough. Tell you the truth, I couldn't even make out that cashier's name from the signature. Thanks Troo! And thanks Kid and Daggar! Of course, on that 10 Kroner, I have to admit, that description was, well, how shall I say, "hyperbole." But it does underscore my curiosity on that note. I don't suppose it's anything scare, or I wouldn't own it. But just in case you guys come across anything on it, please let me know. Thx again!
Congrats on the 1000th post Eddie.:thumb: I googled for your Danish note and found a link that might be helpful http://www.janeriks.no/Banknotes/scand/denmark.htm Also found them selling at 18 to 20 USD at ebay. Hope this helps.
To be honest lol... neither could I really, but once I figured out the date range for the note issued and found a list of Chief Cashiers for that time period Somerset was the only name that could have reasonably matched the signature. The only other cashier during the period this note was issued was John Page and no way you can get that from the signature lol... so it had to be Somerset. http://www.pubquizhelp.com/misc/bank_chief_cashier.html
