Hello De Orc, The mint could be Ticinium second officina. The obverse legend has more letters than IMP CONSTANTINVS AVG. There could be IVN before AVG for Constantine II. Just a thought Cucumbor
Since the bust is helmeted it must be Constantine the Great, plus the IMP in the legend removes any doubt, as Constantine Jr never had the title of Imperator during his fathers lifetime. The obverse legend is IMP CONSTAN-TINVS MAX AVG It looks like altar type 5g, but the center may have a dot, but it is close, so it is RIC VII Ticinum 82
Thanks Victor with the help from Cucomber I checked it out on Wildwinds and came up with 82s Main thing was finding out which mint it came from LOL
I've got RIC Ticinium 82 as R1, though. Everything else seems right. Nice Antoninus Pius! Over the summer, I got about four or five sestertii unattributed, and they were all his!
Wildwinds is a great site, but it does not have examples of every RIC number, and there are some mistakes, but Dave will fix them if you let him know. Dane's site is the best online resource for I.D.ing LRB's like the VLPP. She has many types on excel. I have RIC and I still use her site. Every now and then, you may find an error, but if you let her know she will correct it. http://www.catbikes.ch/coinstuff/coins-ric.htm For even later bronze coins, check out Warren's site http://esty.ancients.info/
You're right of course Victor_Clark, I've problems reading those "worn letters". I just had a kick glance and thought about more letters than stated by De Orc but was not sure what they were. Many persons are better than one... Cucumbor
