Hey everyone. I recently acquired this interesting Spanish Peseta. It appears that there is a star counter mark on the reverse, just above the crown.

Does anyone recognize the mark, and, if so, what it might mean?

    Thanks!

It appears to be just a random counterstamp Craig. While I collect mostly U.S. and Irish counterstamps, I'm not too familiar with foreign stamps so I could be wrong. The placement on the coin seems odd though to be anything other than random.

Thanks for your input, Bruce. You're right, it does seem to be quite random.

Does it have any numbers in it? Not familiar with the earlier dates but from some of my spanish coins I've noticed they place an initial date(design date) ex 1975 then they'll stamp the current date in the star ex. 1975 * 78 making that a 1978 see pic

Nope, no numbers in it, youngbuck. It appears that the mark was made sometime after minting.
