I just thought that some of you might find this short counterfeiter story interesting. http://www.detecting.org.uk/html/Emanuel_Ninger_Jim_the_Penman_Forger.html Lou
Though it doesn't have anything to do with Counterfeiting, that reminded me of this article about 'Art' on currency. http://flyingmoose.org/truthfic/1896.htm
i wonder if a note by him would fool collectors today. To put it differently, just how good was the artwork by Ninger, and how easily fool would a modern collector be? The note on the link is a bit grainy so its hard to tell the quality of the artwork. neat link LSM. thanks.
I really like the story. Liked it even more as I took a closer look. The note has Detroit typed on it
dj, I looked for a better picture of the note and had no luck finding one. I agree with you, I would like to see how good the art work is on the note. dursin, the art work on those educational notes are something else!!! The educational notes are my favorite series. Thank you Noost for taking a look at the story. Glad you like it. Lou
Well considering the poor quality of some modern frged notes proberly it would do ok LOL I loved the second link, some of those designs were stunning :hail:
I thought the story was great as well...to do this by hand!! Today, as we saw with the fake $1000 star note, a good printer can generate pretty good quality.... I am wondering if anyone today would even dare take on the challenge to relicate an engraved note by a hand drawing?? Thanks LSM!! RickieB
Hi RickieB. :hail: The one person that pops into my mind when it comes to hand drawing notes is Tim Prusmack. Some of his notes have been sold on Heritage. There used to be quite a bit of talk about him up to the time that he passed away in 2004. Lou
Lou... This is the first mention of him I have come across. Do you have any references where I can see some of the work? I would love to have a replicate of a hand drawn note framed and mounted near my desk! How cool is that?? Thanks Lou! RickieB
RickieB, take a look at Heritage I saw some of his notes there or just goggle his name for more info on him. Tim was a numismatics before he en barked on a art career. Take care...Lou
Thank you for taking a look CamaroDMD. I was really looking for another story that I had found very interesting a long time ago about a counterfeiter. But I found this story instead. No luck finding the other story. Lou
