What do you mean by "looks too nice?" The coin is a high-grade cull! Is the grade "too nice?"

When authenticators say a coin "looks too nice" it usually indicates a brand new fully frosted gem - a virtually perfect coin. ;)

Nothing screams fake to me,it has been dipped etc which gives it a cloudy and frosty look,I'd say it's real.

    I agree with @potty dollar.
The black spots on the reverse say "dipped" to me.
Remnants of the previous surface that were too severe to get removed.

I see nothing that makes me believe that this coin is a fake.

Thanks everyone. My first thought was why would you fake a plain 76 quarter? It’s nice even with the holes.

I think the whizzed look and the "cameo" appearance in the devices makes this look fake. But, if you guys say it's not, then it's not.

Well its just about impossible to fake MPD's and they are very common on the 76 coinage. If you look close in those denticles there's tops of digits, ;)

Sure, somebody cleaned it, as one does with any other kind of pendant. It's still a nice holed example. Pretty sure @lordmarcovan would've been happy to wear it, and @HoledandCreative might even be interested...?

That is exactly why I was thinking fake. I’m glad I was wrong. When in doubt, ask coin talk

Well I gave my coworker an offer for the coin. He was going to a pawn shop to sell. Hopefully my offer was more. I’ll find out tomorrow

It looks genuine to me. It's only missing some of its original metal.

A pawn shop will offer him less than silver melt value. He'll do better selling any of his stuff to you.

Well, he did sell to the pawn shop. They paid up for it because it’s a proof. They said it will go on eBay.

Its actually a proofo_Oo_OI thought the appearance was from a cleaning but it does have the looks, poor coin who would do such crimes to it.

Well, whether they're right or wrong, that already shows that they're in a different class from the pawn shops around here. There might be one or two guys at our shops who could identify an impaired proof, but they would never reveal that to the person selling it, or pay above melt for it.

Somebody who bought it from the Mint for a few cents above face value, and wanted to impress a love interest right now, and didn't much care about collectors a hundred and fifty years in the future.

    It's been done before...

It’s my lcs. I know the coin guy well. They buy at good prices. They didn’t tell the seller about the proof. I’ve never seen a seated proof before. If I would have known…

Good that you sent him some good business, then. We've got only one coin shop in our city that I know of, and I get the impression he's got a worse reputation than the pawnbrokers -- and that's according to other dealers in the area.
