http://coinauthentication.co.uk/newsletter7.html Here is an interesting tidbit concerning a recent discovery of an apparent series of fake Sasanian coins. Yes, the one with the Persian King Ardasher on one side. Every 'dark-side' collector and their brother seems to have one of these, like the Frampton Comes Alive Album in the 1970s many of us had. The 2nd news item discusses the problem. Thanks go out to Meir Sapir for bringing this to our attention Take care Ben
Glad to see you found my little efforts interesting. Regards, Robert (editor Counterfeit Coin Newsletter)
Ah should have realised that such a great work could only be done by a fellow Welshman LOL very interesting read :thumb: De Orc :smile
I Was Asked Once To Identify A Coin That was prooved to be a forgery of Shahpur I of Pearsia Drachm (240-271 CE) the coin was too light.
Thanks for the "heads-up." I've bid unsuccessfully (fortunately!) for several of these coins and I have a couple of these coins on my E-bay watch list. Ouch. Guy
Tell me what you think about this one. I purchased it from www.mintproducts.com It's about the size of a half dollar. Thanks Ben
Here is a Sassanian original I picked up from a dealer at forum ancient coins and had verified by people I trust once I heard a lot of these types were faked...It is a Khusro II and it got a thumbs up as being authentic from every collector and expert of this period I showed it to. But this guys coins arent quite as rare as others from this empire. But you just never know I guess. It has very fine details which makes me think it is, indeed, authentic.
