Counterfeit 1868 10 Escudos

    8D9A689E-6FDB-4309-91FD-13FCFF02FCC2.png 8E9ACE9A-D251-4A2B-A916-6C85A9F6DABB.png Found this today in the junk bin. I assume it’s a contemporary counterfeit but really not sure. It’s modeled after an 1868 Portugal gold 10 Escudos. Looks like it was gilt. Only weighs 4.6 grams.

    Could it be a gaming token/counter?
    Some of those were never intended to pass as real gold coins.

    According to Glen Murray in his "Casa de Moneda de Madrid, 2014, the 2 escudos de oro of Isabel II weighed 1.677 gms, the 4 escudos 3.3354 gms and 8.387 gms the 10 escudos, also known as the "doblón de Isabel" - so even gold plated it was hardly likely to deceive anybody - except the most ignorant -if that was the intention
