There are a fair number of Guatemalan counterstamps but they haven't been well researched or documented BigTee. Apparently, most were issued by haciendas and were symbols or initials that represented their brands. Most seem to have been stamped on high grade coins of the 1860s and 1870s. There is one that resembles yours. It's the initials "R.C." in a beaded oval, but it's issuer is unknown. Another odd fact about these pieces is that many were stamped on 1871 Centavos and are unique. The "R.C." is known on about a dozen coins, all on 1871 Centavos. Yours, while on a Peso, fits well in the period that most were stamped in. I couldn't even estimate a value for you. I have no experience with them. Sorry. Bruce
Here's the info I've found from the information you gave me. I seen the RC with the beaded oval you spoke of, but nothing with just the R. http://www.monedasdeguatemala.com/fincasIN.html
There is one listed in Brunk counterstamped "R" but it's apparently just a single punch and not set in a beaded circle. Unfortunately, it's also unattributed. Bruce
