Thanks! Cherry picked this one yesterday. What do you think about the doubling on the motto? MD? or deteriorated die?
Hard for me to see when it's in the 2X2, like that. Try taking some pictures with the coin outside of it, if possible.
i see some doubling on "UNITED" and in the "R" and "I" in "AMERICA" and maybe on the date. I had to use a friends camera to get these pictures. I couldnt get any good ones with mine so ill get some out of the flip as soon as i can. I brought the clash to the store owners attn and he didnt even care. picked it up for $25
That is an awesomely informative picture on the clash. is that a picture you took or some sort of overlay edit?
It is an overlay to show what position the dies might be in during a clash. (some rotations happen during a clash.)
I'm seeing two sets of clash marks there by UNITED. I can't tell what the doubling is, but another possibility might be a counterclash. The clashes are rather heavy and there is slight movement between them. I am wondering if the first clash may have caused clashmarks on the rev die that were then transferred back to the obverse during the second clash.
I thought that usually resulted in "doubling" towards the rim. ie the 55 poor mans. And me too lately i gravitate towards them in the shops.
I buy them all the time I have posted a few examples of three cent pcs in the post a nickel thread have a look. You'll see the same type of letting
Also make sure buying these half dimes to check for miss placed dates. In her gown and rocks just above the date. On seated quarter's in denticals and same area of her gown.
