ok i have a very small tiny dime the size of a baby asprin from 1914 i think. it is so small i could barely make out what the date was but i am pretty sure anyways is this worth anything or not???..
Well-If it was minted in 1914 like you think it would be a Liberty Head. Looking in the Red Book the weight is 2.5 grams. Coin is .9 silver and the other tenth is copper. Now this is where I get confused. It says in Red Book the diameter is just under 18 mm. Is that the size of your coin? Because I'm not sure that is the size of a baby asprin. The price listings are below... G-4 VG-8 F-12 VF-20 EF-40 AU-50 MS-60 Mintmark D: $2.00 2.50 4.00 7.00 20.00 60.00 100 No Mintmark: $2.00 2.50 4.00 7.00 20.00 60.00 100 Mintmark S: $2.50 4.00 8.00 15.00 35.00 75.00 150 Those prices are out of Red Book and that guide is always a bit pricey. We need to have pictures and mintmark if you can find it. To help...the mintmark is below the wreath on the reverse. Hope this helps a little- Bill
first off i just wanted to say thank you for trying to answer my question no it doesn't look like that picture it says liberty on the front with a lady with hair but she doesn't have that pony tail at the end. the coin is extremely small it is hard to tell exactly what the date is. i even tried to look with a magnifying glass thats what i thought it said 1914 but i guess that is not the correct date .
Bummer-if you can spot the mintmark that would help. But a picture would be even better. If you need help with how to post pictures, Speedy wrote excellent directions CLICK HERE for the directions. Hope this helps- Bill
United States dimes have been minted ever since 1796. However the smallest dime was 17.9 mm in diameter. That's a lot bigger than the coin you are describing. I could only find three designs with the word LIBERTY on the same side as the lady. The most recent is the Mercury dime. It is 17.9 mm in diameter, though. It was minted 1916-1945. I'm not sure if this is you're coin or not, but here's a PICTURE. If it is not this one then refer back to your coin and see if it says 'dime' on it. If it does then maybe it's one of these coins- CAPPED BUST DIME DRAPED BUST DIME If it doesn't say 'dime on it then it's most likely a half-dime. Those would be a loth smaller. Probably the Mercury dime. Remember-pictures help. Bill
Hum I think it's not a USA ten cent peice, lol not even sure why everyone mentioned the barber dime. Anyway on the front/obv. is there the word Nederlanden for Netherlands? I have one from 1962 and it sure is tiny almost half that of a US dime. Here is a link to an ebay auction for a 1914 Netherlands dime one is different but here it is: http://cgi.ebay.com/1914-1941-NETHE...ryZ45154QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
oops it didn't put my pic on there oops sorry that didn't work the file is too big but cherrypicker it looks just like that one picture you had on there.(the mercury dime). only it is way small
Another possibility is a "shrunken" coin, which thickens in the process, leaving shaped like a pill in some cases. Just google "shrunken coins".
yeah thanks cherry pickerand everyone else for your help lol i have one last ? so since its a miniature coin its not worth anything ??just wondering i have no clue about coins
Some of the coin supply stores have a novelty item consisting of miniature versions of modern U.S. coinage. You can go to this page http://www.air-tites.com/ATsupplies.htm#cots and scroll to the bottom to see them.
