i can get roman coins for £1.50p but a 1983 two pence mule piece will set me back around £500 so age doesn't matter it is the mintage and rarity.
Hello Detecto, The motto Non Plus Ultra, "nothing further beyond", is a warning to sailors and navigators to go no further than Gibraltar. Of course, after the new world was discovered in 1492, there was something beyond and the motto used on coins is simply Plus Ultra. You can see the revised motto "Plus Ultra" on these two Spanish coins. These two Spanish coins depict Alfonso XIII on the obverse. He was the king of Spain the instant he was born but that is described in a different thread. :smile
