So I bought a batch of coins from a guy who says he got them when he was a kid. There were deep holes dug in his village in Europe (I have no idea where) and kids would climb down and retrieve coins from the holes. He said he knew nothing about them, and I got them cheap. The other coins look good to me (and aren't especially rare or valuable), but this coin is so rare, I have to wonder if the whole story is hoakum. It weighs 3.4 grams and measures approximately 19.5mm. Any help is very appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome alitherage. I do not recognize the coin in question, and it doesn't look right to me. Stories like this or "I inherited this", etc., generally is a bunch of hooey. Good luck though and post the other coins.

I figured as much, but just wanted to make sure before I threw it in the slush pile. Thanks!

Yep, it just doesn't look right to me as well, although I would have probably performed a little due diligence as a 'learning/training process' since I HATE FAKES LOL.....combined with that overall condition, it would be one I would pass on---any doubt, then there's no doubt.

    I second the others

Like @Bing wrote, stories like this (the "found while I was kid", or any other BS in the same vein, combined to "I don't know nuthin' bout'em", always smells fishy

I think that we can be more categorical in asserting that it is fake.

It looks like a cast (or even a cast of a cast) of a known fake produced by Slavey.

This is an example of the fake I believe it is a cast of.
