Copper oxidation?

I'm not worried here, but just genuinely curious. I have a pamp suisse 1 gram gold bar, in its certificate/case. It is pure gold, 9999 fine, yet it has what appears to be a carbon/copper spot. This is from the copper impurities mixing with oxygen in the air to form the copper/carbon spots? But if the bar is pure gold, or very close to it, how come this happens? I initially thought this was just part of the bar's design when I bought it until I looked at others. Has anyone else seen this on gold bar's?

Can you circle what you are calling a copper spot ? There is a lot of glare on the pic, but I see what looks like a purple spot on my monitor at the center of the curl of the horn of plenty.

And contrary to popular opinion, gold tones - and yes, even pure gold tones.

You mean the purple spot at the end of the cornucopia? Traci

Yep, that's it, right on the ear. It's a purple/reddish spot. Not a big deal, I just didn't think pure gold could tone. Thanks

I have had some Gold Buffalo's with some great target toning. Somehow I think the color on pure gold has to do with whatever chemical residue is left on the coin from the mint interacting with the atmoshpere around it. I am not so sure pure gold can really tone but I guess until I understand the physics a little better I'll leave the possibility open.

If it is really on the coin itself, it would be due to improper mixing of the gold and the small amount of copper or silver (.0001) that stayed in a lump. The specific color bothers me as that color usually occurs with copper or silver far along the oxidation process. My suspect is a small drop of transparent oil or other organic material which wasn't noticed until it oxidized .
