Hey, I don't know anything about coins really but I was just curious about this one I had and whatever information I could get on it: how it was made, value, name of error, etc..

Here's a picture of a regular nickel, a normal penny, and then the error coin I am inquiring with a head shot and then its tail side below it-

    (sorry about the quality)

It has a slightly disfigured shape, as in it's not a perfect circle, and compared to the other coins its size is inbetween the two as the normal nickel is a bit bigger than it and the penny is slightly smaller. The rim is as smooth and clean as an ordinary penny.

    Much thanks in advance.

It is a nickel that was struck on a cent planchet. Depending on the date, these are worth between $175 and $225 in uncirculated condition.

Wow…it looks like a real off metal error, but I would find an expert to take a look at it to make sure. :D

    I’m going to guess $150-$200.

Grrrr. MikeD beat me to it. :p

    Oh, wow, that's really cool.
Thank you both very much for that info.

FYI- the coin is dated 1979
